Managing Wealth in Pathfinder 2e

Pathfinder 2e is unusually precise about money. The game expects characters to accumulate a certain amount of treasure by each level, and falling too far behind, or racing too far ahead, can throw off the math the whole system is built on. This calculator converts coins, tracks your wealth against the level-appropriate guideline, and helps GMs hand out the right treasure.

How this calculator works

Enter your coins in copper, silver, and gold and the tool converts between them instantly. Enter your level and it compares your current wealth to the recommended total for a character of that level, so you can see whether you are on track.

How PF2e wealth works

Currency converts in tens: ten copper make a silver, and ten silver make a gold. More importantly, the game provides a recommended treasure total for each character level, split between permanent items like weapons and armor, consumables like potions and scrolls, and loose currency. Because a character's expected power is tuned around having level-appropriate gear, staying near that guideline keeps encounters balanced. GMs use the same table in reverse to decide how much treasure an adventure should award.

Worked example

Your party reaches a new level and you are checking your gear.

How to use it

  1. Enter your coins to convert and total your currency.
  2. Set your level to compare against the recommended wealth.
  3. Check whether you are light on permanent items, the most common shortfall.
  4. GMs: use the target totals to plan treasure for upcoming levels.

About this calculator

The Pathfinder 2e Gold Calculator lets Game Masters and players look up expected character wealth by level and estimate fair prices for magic items by level, rarity, and type. It keeps loot rewards and shop inventories balanced without a rulebook search mid-session.

How to use it

To check wealth, select a character level and the tool shows the average gold expected at that stage. To price an item, choose the item level, rarity (Common through Legendary), and item type (Weapon, Armor, Potion, Scroll, Wand, or Wondrous Item). A built-in reference table lets you scan base prices across all levels and rarities at once.

FAQ

Are these official prices or estimates? Values follow published PF2e pricing guidelines. Treat them as a starting baseline; your GM can adjust for campaign economy.

Can I use this to price items for sale? Yes. Items sold to vendors typically return a fraction of listed price in PF2e, so use this value as the starting point before applying your table's selling rules.
